Asshole of the Day for June 17, 2013: George Zimmerman, Sr.

George Zimmerman is on trial for shooting Trayvon Martin, a black teenager who police told him not to confront and who was unarmed. From the very beginning there have been accusations of racism.

But George Zimmerman’s father is out with a new book looking at the case. And he says that he thought racism was a thing of the past, until he noticed that African Americans are racist. And then he went on to list organizations that are racist, including the NAACP:

“Simply promotes racism and hatred for their own, primarily finical, interests” and “without prejudice and racial divide, the NAACP would simply cease to exist.”

It’s not clear whether he reaches the natural conclusion here, which is that Trayvon was racist against George Zimmerman, which led to the confrontation and required George Zimmerman to defend himself, but his father is definitely headed in that direction. What an asshole!
